U.S. Praises Cambodia for Economic Development

AKP Phnom Penh, September 19, 2018 —

Honorable Donald Trump, President of the United States of America, has lauded the economic development of Cambodia while receiving newly appointed Cambodian Ambassador to the U.S., H.E. Chum Sounry, according to a press release of the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

“Your arrival in Washington is important on many levels. It signifies the more than 25 years of restored relations we have enjoyed since the Paris Peace Accord. The economic development your country has achieved during this time is astounding, and we are proud to be a partner in growth,” he said.

“We know Cambodia has the potential for much greater development in the future, and we are excited to work together on myriad challenges and opportunities. We look forward to progress in free and fair trade, regional security, and more accountable, democratic governance, and we seek to expand our global health cooperation,” underlined the U.S. President.

Cambodian Ambassador H.E. Chum Sounry was among ambassadors from eleven countries to present the Letter of Credence to the U.S. president on Sept. 17.

In his remarks on this occasion, the Cambodian ambassador underlined that “Cambodia has achieved remarkable progress in the socio-economic development during the last two decades since the return of total peace and stability to the country in the year 90s. The bilateral trade exchanges and development assistance provided by the U.S. have contributed importantly in this growth that will be further encouraged by the signing on April 23, 2018 by Mr. President of the ‘Consolidated Appropriation Act 2018’ to continue to provide the Generalised System of Preferences to the developing countries, among them is Cambodia, for the period from Jan. 1, 2018 too Dec. 31, 2020.”

H.E. Ambassador has renewed “the good will of the Royal Government of Cambodia to strengthen and broaden the relations of friendship and cooperation between the Kingdom of Cambodia and the United States of America for mutual interest of the people of both countries.” He assured the President that he would try all his best in working closely with the U.S. Administration for the sake of the bilateral ties.

“Mr. Ambassador, I am glad to work with you to advance our common agenda and deepen the bonds between our countries,” said President Donald Trump.
