Banana Growers Interested in Export to China Need to Register at Ministry of Agriculture
AKP Phnom Penh, August 14, 2018 —
Banana growers interested in having their harvest exported to China need to register at the Ministry of Agriculture Forestry and Fisheries.
The call was made through a recent press release from the ministry, highlighting that once registered, banana growers will receive technical quality support to meet their product with required standard.
The notification follows a Cambodia-China protocol inked earlier this month by the ministry and the Chinese embassy to allow imports of fresh bananas to the Asian largest market.
The protocol, added the press release, is applicable to only growers of bananas, not other fruits.
By far, three banana growing firms – with 5,000 hectares of banana farms in Rattanakiri, Kratie and Kampot provinces, producing about 14,000 tons of the fruit annually – have registered at the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
